The Origins of the Shadewell Family
Shadewell is a family-run business based in Fordingbridge, in the heart of the New Forest. With over 40 years of experience, Shadewell is a renowned name in the UK awning industry. Our mission is to provide innovative shading solutions that not only protect but also significantly enhance commercial and residential environments. We offer high-end, bespoke shading solutions for commercial clients throughout the UK and Ireland.
Our team consists of industry experts who bring extensive knowledge and a proactive approach to every project. We understand the specific needs of professional installations and are skilled at managing the unique challenges these projects often present. Our solutions enhance living and working environments, effectively addressing both aesthetic preferences and climatic conditions
Our History
1983 _1996. Founded by husband-and-wife team, Kevin and Leslie Barry. The company began by manufacturing internal blinds and progressed into manufacturing awnings
1996 _ 2008. Shadewell became one of the leading manufacturers of awnings in the UK. Subsequently we decided to focus on external products and the production of internal blinds was stopped in 1998
2008 _ 2023. Following the divorce of Kevin & Leslie, Shadewell transitioned to Sun Fashion. Management passed primarily to their daughter Melanie with Kevin overseeing the factory. Melanie’s husband Simon joined the team in 2016, with Kevin adopting a consultancy role during the COVID Pandemic
2024 January. Following the beginning of a partnership with the Gaviota Group, we decided to return to our roots by using the name Shadewell once again
2024 July. We changed our name to Gaviota UK Ltd, becoming the sole commercial supplier of Gaviota Group products in the UK

The Origins Gaviota Group
Founded in 1968 by Víctor Guillén Barceló as Forjas del Vinalopó, our company began by manufacturing tools for curtains. With Spain’s entry into the European Economic Community in the 1980s, we expanded our offerings with tubular motors and opened new locations. In the 1990s, we focused on awning systems, gaining international presence. Today, with a global presence and a production capacity of 60,000 square meters, we are a reference point in the industry.
